This project, located in Fergus Falls, MN, involves retrofit of new mechanical systems in a historic courthouse and new additions. The systems included conversion of the heating systems from steam to hot water and replacement of the central heating plant and chilled water plant. The project included jail holding cells with security grilles, plumbing fixtures and sprinklers. Electrical upgrades included new energy efficient lighting and automatic lighting controls. MBN utilized LED lighting into the design and also had many of the historic light fixtures restored. This restoration included having the fixtures tested and certified by the Underwriters’ Laboratory a listing required by the National Electrical Code. The reuse of the historic fixtures and the integration of new technology into the spaces gave the Courthouse a user friendly space without losing the historic feel you expect when you walk into a courthouse that was built in 1880. LED lighting was also added to highlight some of the Courthouses key features.
Fergus Falls Public Safety
Located in Fergus Falls, MN, this project is seeking LEED Silver certification. The systems include energy recover for ventilation and ground source heat pumps. There is a parking garage with in-floor heat provided by a water-to-water heat pump. The project utilized LED lighting and automatic lighting controls to meet the stringent guideline requirements to become LEED Silver Certified. Due to the Fergus Falls Police Department operating out this facility a natural gas generator was designed and added to the project. This allows the Police Department to continue serving the community even during power outages. There were also two highly sophisticated interrogation rooms designed into the project. This included security cameras with the ability to review recorded interviews from multiple location.
Grand Forks Air Force Base Fire Station Facility
This was a new fire station facility for the air base. The facility included apparatus bays for the fire-fighting equipment, office space, sleeping quarters, living quarters and a dispatch center. MBN Engineering provided engineering design and construction phase services for the medium voltage power distribution system modifications on base, the exterior and interior lighting and controls system, the lightning protection system, power distribution system, generator and emergency power distribution system, fire alarm system, mass notification system, inside and outside plant telecommunications cabling system and infrastructure, paging system, access control and security system.
GSA ICE Building
This project involved renovating an existing building in Grand Forks, ND into an ICE detention facility for the Department of Homeland Security. MBN Engineering provided engineering design and construction phase services for the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems for the building, the plumbing system, the fire protection system, the building automation system, the exterior and interior lighting and controls system, the power distribution system, fire alarm system, telecommunications cabling system and infrastructure, access control and security system.
